This is a shopping basket woven from thin bamboo resembling kumazasa (dwarf bamboo) that grows wild in the mountainous regions of Iwate Prefecture.

This handled lunch basket is made from white bamboo from Kagoshima Prefecture. This is the medium, single-tier type.



In addition to being a lunch box, it can also be used as a storage basket for household necessities, such as a sewing kit or a first-aid kit.



In the Kyushu region, small baskets of this type were once used by children as lunch boxes. Square baskets with handles are still known as "tofu baskets."



The depth of the basket is approximately 9cm.

With a substantial capacity, it's the perfect size for carrying lunch for 2-3 people.



The entire basket is finished with a weaving technique also known as "hishigi-ami." It's meticulously crafted, so the body and lid of the basket close securely and satisfyingly.



Slightly thicker white bamboo is used for the rim. The brass nails used as fasteners add a subtle accent. Inside, the brass nails are bent over, but please be careful when handling, just in case.



The connection point to the handle is also lovely.



The bottom features a sturdy "ikadazoko-ami" (raft bottom weave), typically used for larger baskets. The slightly raised bottom is a remnant of the tofu baskets, designed both for carrying tofu and allowing water to drain.

Old scissors and tools inherited from mother to child fit comfortably inside.

The lid comes off, making it convenient for easy access.

The "Maga-nuri technique" (true coating technique) finishes the coating in a single application, carefully removing dust by filtering the lacquer repeatedly and applying it without leaving brush marks.

Yukihiro Tsutsui's wild grape vine basket bags are easy to carry and match with various outfits because they are not too formal. These basket bags are just like Mr. Tsutsui's simple and honest personality.






These wild grape vine basket bags are made in the satoyama (foothills) of Nagano Prefecture. This is a large-sized bag woven with a fine ajiro weave, and it can also be worn over the shoulder. The bold yet delicate and beautiful craftsmanship is truly Tsutsui-san's forte.



With a square bottom and a solid gusset, it has more storage capacity than it appears.


These are all handmade by Yukihiro Tsutsui of "Yamabudo Kobo Tsutsui," starting from the cutting of the wild grape vines, which are the raw material. Tsutsui-san's baskets bring out a deep flavor by utilizing the natural vines, dynamically weaving in their original curves, thickness, and thinness. While many products made overseas have their oil stripped away by boiling the vines, resulting in a lack of luster even after extended use, Tsutsui-san's wild grape vine baskets, soaked in water and meticulously woven, grow stronger and more beautiful with each use. Mr. Tsutsui can beautifully repair the basket by replacing the damaged vines. Repairs are free of charge for purchases made within one year. For baskets older than one year, repairs are possible, but a repair fee (approximately 5,000 yen or more, depending on the extent of insect damage) will be charged.
