Yotsume Senbōsha

よつめ染布舎

Yotsume Senpu-sha is a dyeing studio that breathes life into fabric using traditional Japanese dyeing techniques such as "Katazome" (stencil dyeing) and "Tsutsugaki" (freehand paste-resist dyeing).

Our concept is "the joy of dyeing to brighten your life." Our designs are characterized by their powerful yet playful nature, evoking a sense of nostalgia while feeling fresh and new, as if a story unfolds just by looking at them. A single piece of cloth can transform everyday ordinary scenes into something a little more special.

Yotsume Senpu-sha's Commitments

  • The Nuance of Handcraft: We carve stencils, apply resist paste, and dye each piece one by one with a brush. The subtle "color overlaps" and "bleeds" that only handcraft can produce imbue each piece with a unique warmth.

  • The Appeal of Our Designs: Nature, animals, folk art, and sometimes even surreal motifs. The distinctive designs created by Mr. Ono are filled with a warm humor that gently melts the hearts of those who see them.

  • The User's Daily Life: Tenugui towels, handkerchiefs, calendars. We pursue the beauty of our products as "living tools" in daily life, not just to be cherished and displayed, but to be used, washed, and used again and again.

●●● Dyeing for Everyday Life ●●●

We aim to create works that add a special touch to daily life.
We hope that encountering Yotsume's dyed fabrics will be a refreshing experience and brighten your daily life, even just a little.

Using dyeing techniques such as Katazome (stencil dyeing) and Tsutsugaki (freehand paste resist dyeing),
most processes are done by hand.
Fabrics dyed by hand possess a unique "ambiguity" that cannot be achieved by machines.

The outlines of lines may be blurred, or the print slightly misaligned.
    While these are unintended elements,
this "ambiguity" is somehow interesting and conveys the warmth of human hands.
We aim to create such fabrics.
