These "wild grapevine basket bags" are made in the satoyama (foothills) of Nagano Prefecture.
This is a medium-sized bag woven with fine ajiro (wickerwork). The bold yet delicate and beautiful craftsmanship can truly be called Mr. Tsutsui's forte.
These items are entirely handmade by Yukihiko Tsutsui of "Wild Grapevine Kobo Tsutsui," from the harvesting of the wild grapevine vines that serve as the material.
Mr. Tsutsui's baskets make the most of natural vines, dynamically weaving in their original curves, thickness, and thinness to create a profound texture.
While many items made overseas have their oil stripped away by boiling the vines, resulting in a lack of luster even with extended use, Mr. Tsutsui's wild grapevine baskets, carefully woven after being soaked in water, are strong and grow more beautiful with use.
These boldly woven baskets, imbued with the power of nature, are easy to carry for both casual and elegant occasions, suiting any person or place.
