This "warabi basket" is woven from thin strips of moso bamboo from Ibaraki Prefecture.
As its name suggests, it is a tool born out of daily life, traditionally used for harvesting wild vegetables and mushrooms. Every step of its creation is done carefully by hand.
The bottom is square for stability, and the body has a beautiful curve for easy handling. The handles are woven from the bottom up so that heavy items can be carried. Subtle工夫 have been made, such as making the handle thicker where it is held for easier carrying.
Since natural materials are used, the color of the bamboo may vary, but it will turn into a beautiful golden color over time.
Please note that black spots may be seen on the surface of the bamboo, but these are not mold. Also, the appearance will differ depending on the part of the bamboo used, but please understand this as a characteristic of natural materials.
Even baskets of the same size may vary slightly in size depending on the weaver. We list the average size. Please understand.
The handle has been improved by tying two bamboo strips together for even easier carrying.
Please understand that the design may vary slightly depending on the time of arrival and the artisan. Please appreciate this as the charm of handmade items made from natural materials.
Beautifully woven moso bamboo baskets are not only great in the kitchen but also make lovely storage baskets. Sometimes, it's nice to go out with your lunch and water bottle in one.
